Nottingham Forest are exploring the possibility of a last-minute move for West Ham United midfielder James Ward-Prowse, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Ward-Prowse joined the Hammers from Southampton in a deal worth around £30 million last summer, but his fortunes have taken a sharp turn just 12 months later.

The free-kick specialist made 49 appearances across all competitions last season. He justified his price tag with a respectable return of seven goals and 11 assists.

However, he is reportedly not in Julen Lopetegui’s long-term plans at West Ham following the club’s spending spree this summer.

Ward-Prowse has only played just over a quarter-hour of Premier League football this season and could be allowed to leave the club.

Forest are planning to take advantage of his situation and could open talks to secure his signature before the deadline.

Ward-Prowse isn’t in the manager’s plans, and his situation has alerted several clubs in the Premier League and abroad to his availability.

Former Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez’s arrival on a free transfer has seemingly pushed Ward-Prowse further down the pecking order.

West Ham are now ready to sell the Englishman just 12 months after his arrival from Southampton on a four-year contract.

Despite bolstering the squad with seven new players, Lopetegui is still looking to sign at least a new midfielder before the window closes.

The Hammers are working on a deal for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler, but they need to raise funds through player sales to facilitate the move.

West Ham are looking to offload some of their deadweight to make room for more fresh additions.

Nayef Aguerd is subject to interest from European clubs, while a move to the Saudi Pro League is also on the cards.

Ward-Prowse could also leave the club, but the Hammers want to recoup the funds they invested in him last summer.
