Having left Strasbourg at the start of the month after the expiry of his contract, Ghana international defender Alexander Djiku has a number of options in terms of prospective future clubs,
Although the Alsatians were reportedly looking to keep their former captain – not least given their financial means have increased in the wake of the takeover by Chelsea owners BlueCo.
The 28-year-old, who had spent four seasons with Strasbourg, will instead move on. According to L’Équipe this afternoon, Nottingham Forest and Fenerbahçe are leading the chase, although Villarreal are another potential destination.
Djiku himself intends to have his immediate future wrapped up as quickly as possible. Both the Premier League and the Turkish outfit have put forward formal proposals to the centre-back. Villarreal, meanwhile, are still contemplating a move, and are reluctant to see another member of the backline leave for AFCON next year, along with Aïssa Mandi.
L’Équipe add that Djiku has met with new Strasbourg manager Patrick Vieira twice – but the defender remains adamant on trying his luck abroad. The Ligue 1 side are nevertheless optimistic about the prospect of winning him over with another contract.
