Nottingham Forest have confirmed the signing of forward Joy Omewa from Fortuna Hjørring.

The Nigeria international joins the club on a permanent deal until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old started her career in Nigeria with Confluence Queens before joining Danish side Boldklubben af 1893 (B.93) in April 2021, where she scored three times in nine appearances.

She then secured a move to Fortuna Hjørring in November 2021, where she has scored more than 50 goals in her five years there. She helped them win the Danish Women’s Cup twice and Kvindeligaen league title in 2024-25 – and during that double-winning campaign, she was named the league’s player of the season..

Internationally, Omewa won her first senior cap for Nigeria last year, having already represented them at under-17 and under-20 level.

In quotes circulated to the media, head coach Carly Davies said: “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Joy Omewa to Nottingham Forest.

“Joy’s incredible goalscoring prowess speaks for itself. She’s a dynamic forward with a natural instinct in front of goal, and her ability to find the net consistently at both club and international level makes her a fantastic addition to our squad.

“Joy is exactly the type of player who can help us push forward and achieve our ambitions.”

And Omewa added: “I am delighted to sign for Nottingham Forest. It’s an ambitious club and I’m excited to be a part of this team.

“I can’t wait to get started for this club and I think I can add a lot to an already talented group at Forest.”

Forest are currently sixth in WSL2, level on points with Newcastle United. They have two tough games coming up against the sides at the top of the table – first away to second-placed Birmingham City on Sunday, 1st February, and then league leaders Charlton Athletic at home on Sunday, 8th February.
