Karim Konate has emerged as a Nottingham Forest target for January, with the Red Bull Salzburg striker under consideration.

Fussball News reports that Forest have the 22-year-old Ivory Coast international on a shortlist for long-term investment, with his physicality and penalty-box presence viewed as a Premier League fit.

It was a quiet summer at the City Ground, as Oliver Glasner kept a streamlined squad and added only five signings before the September deadline.

Competition is expected to be strong, with Sunderland, RB Leipzig, Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund credited with interest. Dortmund are said to be in pole position, and a January switch is described as a realistic possibility.

Salzburg would prefer to keep Konate until next summer, yet a sale before then has not been ruled out. His valuation is put at €20-25m, roughly £17-21m.

Konate has started well this term, scoring six times in 11 league and Europa League outings.

Forest already bolstered their attack by signing Liam Delap from Chelsea for an initial £45m, and he has begun brightly.

Glasner also has Chris Wood, Igor Jesus and Arnaud Kalimuendo, although the latter two are more suited to the no.10 roles in his system. Goals remain an issue, with Forest yet to score at home after four City Ground fixtures in all competitions.
