Nottingham Forest have lodged a third bid for Celtic midfielder Arne Engels as they look to bolster midfield on deadline day, according to Sky Sports News. The offer totals about £25m, with £20m up front and a further £5m in add-ons.

Forest had earlier seen proposals of roughly £14m then £17m rejected.

Celtic have so far signalled no desire to sell the 22-year-old. Martin O’Neill said he had been unaware of any approach during Sunday’s 2-0 win over Falkirk and that only an astronomical figure would tempt the club.

He added he would want any bid rebuffed unless it was £100m and that he would rather keep the midfielder.

Engels joined from FC Augsburg in summer 2024 on a deal to at least June 2028. He has 15 goals and 20 assists in 89 appearances for the Bhoys and has been a key figure this season.

Forest have also seen Douglas Luiz depart and return to Aston Villa earlier in the window, and they have bid for Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney.
