Nottingham Forest have turned their attention to Napoli defender Mathias Olivera, with Get Football News Italy reporting the club have made in-depth enquiries and that a significant offer could soon follow.
The Reds have yet to make a January signing and have until two February to conclude business. A striker remains the priority, although full-back is also being assessed.
Olivera, 28, is said to be seeking regular minutes after a lack of game time in Italy, and there is said to be a concrete possibility he moves before the deadline.
Interest arrives as Forest weigh up whether to end Oleksandr Zinchenko’s loan early. “We have spoken to the player and made it clear in his situation. He is aware of that so we will see what happens,” Dyche said on Thursday when asked about Zinchenko.
Zinchenko has made just five Premier League appearances in the Garibaldi and, with Ola Aina recently back from injury, has slipped further down the full-back order.
Aina and Neco Williams are Dyche’s first-choice full-backs, both able to operate on either flank. Forest also have youngster Nicolo Savona, and teenager Eric da Silva Moreira’s loan at Rio Ave has been cut short. Should Zinchenko depart, the Reds would be light on experienced cover, a situation complicated by the absence of a break clause and Arsenal having no space for him in their squad.
