Nottingham Forest host Leeds United on Sunday in a massive game for new manager Sean Dyche.
The team is currently winless in their last nine league games. Furthermore, they have lost six of those matches, which leaves them 19th in the table. Consequently, Dyche is still searching for his first league victory after a loss and a draw in his first two games.
The hosts can, however, draw on a formidable historical record. Impressively, Forest are unbeaten in their last 13 top-flight home games against Leeds. This is a run that stretches all the way back to 1971. Therefore, they will be desperate for that dominance to continue as they fight for survival.
Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche faces a severe selection crisis for his first home league match. This is particularly true in attack. The team’s problems up front are critical. For instance, Igor Jesus is serving a suspension. He is also joined on the sidelines by injured strikers Chris Wood (knee) and Taiwo Awoniyi (unavailable). As a result, the attack is in such a depleted state that Morgan Gibbs-White may be forced to play in a “false nine” role. Gibbs-White is the club’s all-time Premier League goal involvement leader.
The manager’s headaches are not just confined to the attack. Key midfielder Douglas Luiz has been definitively ruled out. He sustained a hamstring injury during the match against Manchester United. This issue is expected to keep him sidelined for a significant period. In defence, however, there is a rare piece of good news. Centre-back Murillo is expected to be fit to start. He was rested as a precaution in the midweek European fixture.
Nottingham Forest predicted XI: Sels; Savona, Milenkovic, Murillo, Williams; Yates, Anderson; Ndoye, Gibbs-White, Dominguez; Jesus
