Sean Dyche begins his tenure as Nottingham Forest manager on Thursday with a challenging Europa League fixture against Portuguese league leaders Porto.
Forest are currently enduring a dismal ten-match winless run. Consequently, Dyche faces an immediate task to lift spirits against a Porto side that arrives at the City Ground unbeaten this season and with a perfect record in Europe so far.
New manager Sean Dyche has only one confirmed injury absentee. Defender Ola Aina is still recovering from hamstring surgery. However, several players are ineligible for the Europa League. These include Taiwo Awoniyi, Omari Hutchinson, Jair Cunha, and Angus Gunn. Elsewhere, captain Ryan Yates is pushing for a recall to the starting lineup under the new boss.
Francesco Farioli’s side have long-term injuries affecting Luuk de Jong and Nehuen Pérez. Additionally, Tomás Pérez and Yann Karamoh are not registered for this competition. On a positive note, left-back Zaidu Sanusi has recovered from a calf issue. He has travelled with the squad to England. Porto are expected to field their strongest available XI for this match.
Forest find themselves in a deep crisis. They are currently winless in ten matches across all competitions. Their home form is particularly worrying. In fact, they have lost their last four games at the City Ground without scoring a single goal. Furthermore, they have taken just one point from their opening two Europa League games.
The Portuguese side arrive in excellent shape. They are unbeaten in 11 competitive matches this season, winning ten of them. Moreover, they have started their Europa League campaign perfectly, securing victories over both Salzburg and Red Star Belgrade. Porto have also won all six of their away games this season by an impressive aggregate score of 16-1. However, they do historically struggle when playing in England.
Nottingham Forest predicted XI: Sels; Williams, Milenkovic, Murillo, Zinchenko; Ndoye, Yates, Anderson, Hudson-Odoi; Gibbs-White; Wood
Porto predicted XI: D. Costa; A. Costa, Bednarek, Kiwior, Moura; Froholdt, Varela, Veiga; Pepe, Samu, Sainz
The match kicks off tonight at 8:00 pm BST. Fans in the UK can watch it live on TNT Sports. Streaming is also available via Discovery+.
