Nottingham Forest want a fee close to £125 million for Morgan Gibbs-White, according to The Telegraph.
The Tricky Trees have no intention of parting ways with Gibbs-White, but want the fee to be close to the British record they are demanding for Elliot Anderson if they do.
Forest fought hard to fend off interest from Tottenham Hotspur for Gibbs-White, handing him a new contract until 2028.
However, that deal has not stopped suitors from enquiring about his availability.
The Englishman caught the eye last season. Despite a difficult start to the campaign, he bagged 18 goals and seven assists across 53 games in all competitions.
He caught fire towards the end of the season and should have been on the plane to the 2026 World Cup in North America.
The 26-year-old Forest captain is also a leader of men and would be a coup for any club looking for a hard-grafting, creative and impactful number ten.
Unfortunately, as good as Gibbs-White is, any club willing to stump up close to that sum to sign him has more money than sense.
While he is a fine footballer, some of the prices quoted in this transfer market are quite outrageous, and this is definitely one of the most ridiculous.
It is no surprise that clubs are concerned that the proposed transfer of Anderson to Manchester City could disrupt the market.
While Forest have every right to demand an unreasonable sum to keep their player, buying clubs must avoid overpaying.
