Nottingham Forest will seek a vital boost from their European campaign when they travel to Austria to face Sturm Graz on Thursday.
The Premier League side are 19th in the domestic table but earned a vital 2-2 draw against Manchester United last weekend. New manager Sean Dyche, the club’s third of the season, will be hoping to build on that momentum. They face a Sturm Graz side sitting fourth in the Austrian Bundesliga, who are also looking to bounce back after a 2-1 league defeat to Rapid Vienna.
This match is critical for Forest’s European hopes. At present, they sit 17th in the league stage table. Furthermore, they face a Sturm Graz side that employs a very direct style of play. In fact, the hosts rank last in the competition for passing accuracy. Despite this, English teams boast a strong record against Austrian clubs. Impressively, they are unbeaten in their last 32 such encounters.
A severe injury and eligibility crisis is hampering Sean Dyche’s first European selection. First, he has a major doubt over midfielder Douglas Luiz, who sustained a hamstring injury at the weekend. In addition, key players Ola Aina, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Chris Wood, and Dilane Bakwa are all injured.
Compounding this, Taiwo Awoniyi and Omari Hutchinson are both ineligible for the Europa League squad. This means the creative burden will fall heavily on Morgan Gibbs-White and Elliot Anderson. Anderson, in particular, has been excellent. He has created the most chances (11) of any player in the Europa League this season.
Nottingham Forest predicted XI: Sels; Savona, Murillo, Milenkovic, Williams; Anderson, Sangare; Ndoye, Gibbs-White, Hudson-Odoi; Jesus
The Europa League fixture takes place at the Merkur Arena on Thursday, 6 November 2025. Kick-off is scheduled for 5:45 pm GMT.
