Nottingham Forest’s Europa League run is set to be worth around £20m to £25m, despite a 4-0 defeat at Aston Villa on Thursday that overturned a 1-0 first-leg lead, losing 4-1 on aggregate and ending hopes of a final in Istanbul.
According to Nottingham Post, Forest received a league phase participation fee of about £3.7m to £3.8m, plus performance money from four wins and two draws worth roughly £1.8m to £2m, calculated at £389,000 per win and £130,000 per draw.
A ranking bonus for finishing 13th in the ninth to 16th bracket added about £260,000. Progression brought further payouts, with roughly £260,000 for the knockout play-off, £1.5m for the round of 16 and £2.2m for the quarter-finals.
Reaching the semi-finals was worth around £3.9m, alongside an additional performance or value share. Together, those elements comprise the club’s earnings as semi-finalists.
The figures would have risen further had Forest reached the final, while winning it would have been worth more than £10m. Villa’s own run is set to deliver in excess of £30m.
