Alassana Jatta has been the subject of interest for a move back to Denmark

Notts County will begin life back in League One next month after an 11-year exodus, which included time spent in the National League.

Martin Paterson's side were successful in the fourth-tier play-offs last season, sweeping aside Salford City in the final at Wembley in a matchup which highlighted their attacking talents.

Jodi Jones stole the show with a goal and an assist, while Alassana Jatta also got on the scoresheet and, while not contributing specifically on the day, Tom Iorpenda and Jayden Luker excelled in the two 10 spots, as they had done multiple times throughout the campaign.

Notts County will come into the summer knowing that they have to replace the latter two, as they return to their parent clubs, but the Magpies will want to ensure that they're the only couple of third-tier-ready attackers that they lose this summer.

When fit, Jones can be amongst the most influential widemen in League One, and Jatta is arguably the best line-leader out of the four newly promoted clubs, with 43 goals in 89 games for Notts.

They'll be vital to Martin Paterson's side remaining in the third tier for more than a single season, but it seems like they'll be incurring a struggle to keep one of them at Meadow Lane past the current window.

For the second summer running, Jatta is the subject of transfer talk. This time last year, there was interest from sides higher up the EFL for the Notts County man, such as Bolton Wanderers.

This time round, though, according to Farzam Abolhosseini on X, the Gambian frontman is the subject of interest from AC Horsens over a move back to Denmark, where Notts brought Jatta in January 2024.

The former Viborg man has only two goals in 44 games in the Danish Superliga, but has excelled in England in the two-and-a-half years he's been with Notts County.

Horsens, who were promoted from the second tier last season, are hoping that Jatta can lead them into a season where they'll hope they can establish themselves back in the top flight.

The report states that Horsens have bid €500,000 (£426,675) for the 27-year-old, plus bonuses, who is said to be under contract until the end of the 2026/27 season.

Notts County won't want another transfer saga this summer surrounding Alassana Jatta

The speculation surrounding Jatta's future at Meadow Lane last summer was high, after Jatta lost some of his popularity amongst the Notts' fanbase following his red card and subsequent altercation with Josh Neufville in their play-off semi-final first leg defeat against AFC Wimbledon.

He missed the first five games of the recent League Two campaign as he served his suspension, but there were murmurs about him jumping ship following a season where he came second in the Golden Boot race in his first full year in the fourth tier.

Many believed that was due to his ability to play higher than where the Magpies were set to begin last season, but even now that they've earned their promotion to League One, there's still conversation about Jatta possibly departing.

Notts County are in the midst of a near season-defining transfer window, as they aim to put together a squad strong enough to remain in the third tier following their promotion, so to have questions being asked surrounding their talisman's future can't be helpful for Martin Paterson and co.

Notts travel to Burnley to kick off their campaign in the EFL Cup first round on August 8. Hopefully, there'll be clarity surrounding Jatta's position in the side way before then.
