This is according to Football Insider's transfer guru, Pete O'Rourke, who has detailed this information in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

The 21-year-old has yet to feature for the first team but has been heavily involved around the Toffees' youth setup for a number of years.

However, with just six months remaining on his current deal, the attacking midfielder seems set to depart Goodison Park this January to join up with Stuart Maynard's County.

The Magpies have enjoyed a relatively successful season so far, picking up a tally of 40 points from their opening 24 games. However, as we saw last year, failing to capitalise on January can be costly, making it crucial for them to maximise their efforts this month.

Their only addition to date (13th January) has been Hull City winger Will Jarvis, who joined on a three-and-a-half-year deal. If they can force a deal over the line for Whitaker, then they could be getting another top prospect to aid them in their bid for promotion to League One.

As detailed above, O'Rourke is reporting that County are in advanced talks to sign Whitaker.

The 21-year-old joined Everton aged 12 from Blackburn Rovers and most recently signed a deal at Goodison back in 2022, penning himself to three more years at the club.

However, now approaching the expiry date of this contract, it seems that Whitaker will not be afforded any opportunities.

This has prompted Notts County to show interest and the attacking midfielder may get his first taste of men's football if Maynard opts to sign him.

What sort of fee the Magpies would have to pay remains unclear, but with his contract coming to an end in the near future, you imagine it will be a small figure.

Charlie Whitaker's strong record for Everton's youth

Having been at Everton since his teenage years, Whitaker has racked up plenty of appearances in the youth system.

Across the under-18s and under-21s, he has played 87 games, scoring 30 goals and registering 13 assists during that time. This season, the youngster has been particularly prominent, with seven goals to his name in the Premier League 2.

While League Two football will be a step-up, Maynard will be hoping for a similar contribution from the 21-year-old if he signs.
