FLW's Notts County fan pundit issues verdict on the Reedtz brothers' ownership of the club after writing off a £10.75m loan
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more...
Since Notts County's promotion to the EFL back in the 2022/23 season, they have been a club on the up, with a rise to League One seeming imminent after their play-off finish in 2024/25.
After falling short to the eventual play-off winners AFC Wimbledon at the semi-final stage, new manager Martin Paterson - who replaced Stuart Maynard in the dugout over the summer - has his sights set on going one better this year, and they certainly look on their way to mounting a solid challenge.
As for ongoings off the pitch, in terms of the top end of the hierarchy of the club, it has been a busy period for owners Christoffer and Alexander Reedtz who recently wrote off a £10.75m loan that was owned to their company, Football Radar, by the club.
After waiving off a £10.75m loan last month, it has highlighted to Notts County fans, the pair's commitment to the club in the long-term and have quickly become very popular figures at Meadow Lane if they were not already before.
A statement via the Notts County official club website said, "This waiver will result in notable accounting changes which will show a profit for Notts County and a corresponding loss for Football Radar.
"The owners’ decision is a clear demonstration of their long-term commitment to Notts County, providing a stronger platform for future progress."
It was a decision that was welcomed by many Notts County fans, and speaking to FLW, our Notts County fan pundit, Gareth Parr, thinks that the Reedtz brothers are the right men to take the club to the next step.
"Personally, I think that the Reedtz brothers are a really good thing for Notts," Gareth told FLW.
"They seem to be wanting to build the club on a very sustainable footing, rather than throwing money at potentially getting quick promotions and therefore rebound relegations.
"But, I think they seem to be really good owners. They seem to be in it for the long haul, they seem to be doing things for the best interests of the club in a sustainable and scalable manor."
After taking over the club six years ago, having just been relegated out of the EFL, the Reedtz brothers have made massive strides in earning the club success and pushing them back up the pyramid through careful decision-making and commitment.
The pair have restored hope within their fanbase and there is certainly a sense of excitement for the future at Meadow Lane.
However, Gareth wants the Reedtz brothers to communicate more with the supporters and be given more transparency going forward.
Gareth added: "I think in terms of things that they could do differently in recent times, I think a lot of Notts County fans still remember all the darkness and secret around the Russell King and Munto [Finance] takeover that obviously caused the club to go into complete bankruptcy and ruin before being rebuilt again slowly.
"I think many fans are still aware of that, although the Reedtz brothers are very secretive, keep everything very close to their chest, you don't get many leaks out about what's going on about transfers or even business opportunities and things like that, but that seems to be the way of business now."
