Notts County may have a decision to make soon over the future of Huddersfield Town loanee Tom Iorpenda - and whether or not they want to try and invest in him on a full-time basis.

The 20-year-old joined the League Two promotion chasers on loan in the summer, and has proven to be a key part of Martin Paterson's side already.

He has contributed three assists from 12 starts, featuring in every single league fixture so far this campaign with the team chasing promotion to League One.

The young midfielder is impressing, and Terriers manager Lee Grant will no doubt be pleased with the progress he’s made, having been unable to break into the club's first-team plans in the last couple of years.

Iorpenda previously made seven league appearances for Huddersfield, all of which came as a substitute, but his performances in League Two could lead to him taking the step up in the future - could that be with Notts?

Tom Iorpenda’s chances of a permanent Notts County move analysed

When asked about a permanent move for Iorpenda, FLW’s Notts County fan pundit Gareth Parr claimed it will have to depend on the value Huddersfield put on him, and whether the owners would be willing to spend that much.

He believes that the midfielder is winning over the crowd, and he will go down as one of their best loan signings, alongside George Abbott and Jack Grealish, if he can continue his form.

“A great history when it comes to loan signings, in the past obviously Grealish was a great loanee at Notts and then last year we had George Abbott,” Parr told Football League World.

“And yes, Iorpenda has hit it off with the crowd.

“Still young, still developing strength and stuff like that, so generally only plays for the first hour, but always creates an impact.

“Should they consider a permanent move? Definitely, he fits into Notts’ style, the way that they play.

“Will he be too expensive? I guess nobody knows that, really, except for Huddersfield and the owners, and the owners have always said they have a value of every player based on the impact they have in the squad.

“That seems to be a model that bodes really well, works out really well, so it’ll come down to that, I guess.”

Parr has claimed that Notts County could pay to sign Iorpenda on a permanent basis if the owners determine he’s worth whatever Huddersfield value him at, suggesting £500,000 as an example of the kind of fee they might want.

“If they come back and say they want £500,000 for Iorpenda in January as a permanent transfer, and the owner’s calculations say he’s worth more than that, I think it’s something they’ll move on,” Gareth added.

“He definitely does improve the squad, which is another fundamental belief that the owners have, that anyone they bring in should have an impact within the squad and make the squad better.

“But obviously based on the cost it is to do that.

“They’re always looking at value in order to keep this sustainable building happening.”

Next up for Notts County will be a home clash against Cambridge United following their midweek result away to Swindon Town, as they seek a place inside the top seven to start November.

The Magpies reached the play-offs in the previous campaign, but missed out on promotion with a defeat to AFC Wimbledon.

Newly-appointed Martin Paterson - the successor to Stuart Maynard - will be hoping to guide the club one step further to a place in League One after being appointed as manager in June this year.

Permanent Tom Iorpenda move could make sense for all parties - Huddersfield Town would need a sell-on though

Iorpenda was unable to break into the Huddersfield team on a consistent basis last year, and now they have a lot of midfield options for him to compete with if he is recalled after their big summer investment.

He’s made a great start to life in League Two, and he will be key to any promotion push at Notts County this season, provided he stays.

With the likes of Ben Wiles, Ryan Ledson, Herbie Kane and David Kasumu all likely ahead of Iorpenda in the pecking order, Huddersfield could potentially be convinced to sell on a permanent basis in January, should an offer come in, but for any consideration of that, there would surely need to be a sell-on clause involved in case his stocks sky-rocket at Meadow Lane.

That might be the move that suits all parties, because the 20-year-old is enjoying a great start to life at Notts County, and it’s clearly been a positive step for his development.
