FLW's Notts County fan pundit has given his reaction to reports that striker Alassana Jatta has been the subject of a £425,000 transfer bid.

Notts County are preparing for life in League One after winning promotion from League Two last season.

Notts County missed out on automatic promotion on the final day of the regular season, but after overcoming local rivals Chesterfield in their play-off semi-final, they secured a return to League One for the first time since 2015 with a 3-0 victory over Salford City in the final at Wembley.

It has been a busy start to the summer for the Magpies, with five new signings arriving at Meadow Lane so far in James Gibbons, Max Sanders, Darius Lipsiuc, Callum Roberts and Emile Acquah, while a number of the promotion-winning squad have departed, including the likes of Oliver Norburn, Keanan Bennetts and Matthew Dennis.

Notts will be hoping to strengthen their squad further ahead of their season opener at home to Leicester City next month, but it seems they could be vulnerable to losing star striker Alassana Jatta.

Jatta joined the Magpies from Viborg for £100,000 in February 2024, and he has scored 43 goals and provided 11 assists in 89 appearances for the club, including netting 15 goals to help Martin Paterson's men to promotion last season.

When asked whether the club should sell Jatta, FLW's Notts County fan pundit Gareth Parr admitted he would be surprised if the Magpies were to cash in on the striker for as little as £425,000, and he claimed that a figure similar to the £700,000 received from Millwall for Macaulay Langstaff two years ago would be a more acceptable valuation.

"Personally, I think £425,000 is massively undervalued for someone who was top scorer for Notts County effectively based on half a season," Gareth told FLW.

"He didn't really start playing again until the middle of October and missed a large chunk through injury with what was mentioned to be a broken kneecap.

"It's a difficult one.

"We got about £700,000 for Macaulay Langstaff when he went to Millwall, so I think the club will be looking for something similar.

"He's one of the players that maybe struggles slightly with Paterson's authority, certainly at the beginning, but he seems to have come round.

"The second half of last season was paramount, not just in his attacking facet, but with all of the other stuff he does, the hard work, closing down, defensively at corners.

"Especially when we were missing Matty Platt, he was essential and did so much work defending at corners.

"Like everything else, they'll put the numbers into their model and see what comes out, but, personally, I don't think that's something they'll be looking to cash in on."

Speculation over Jatta's future is nothing new for Notts County to contend with, but they will be incredibly reluctant to lose their star striker ahead of their return to League One.

The Magpies have signed one new striker so far this summer in Acquah, but he failed to score in 13 appearances during an underwhelming loan spell at Harrogate Town in League Two last season, while Lee Ndlovu is unproven in the third tier, so it would certainly be a risk for the board to cash in on their talisman and leave themselves light in the attacking areas.

, so it seems unlikely they will accept Horsens' current bid, but if the Danish outfit were to increase their offer, the Reedtz brothers could face a dilemma as the Gambia international enters the final year of his contract.
