L'Équipe reports that Djokovic, an investor in the Sarthe club since last summer, highlighted the result on Instagram by reposting the squad’s celebratory chant.

Earlier, the 38-year-old Serb reached the third round of the Masters 1000 at Indian Wells, beating the Pole Kamil Majchrzak 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, in his first outing since the Australian Open final.

He also posted images of his win and a clip of him signing autographs, adding a simple “Allez”.

Djokovic joined a group of high-profile backers last year, including Felipe Massa, Kevin Magnussen and Thibaut Courtois, alongside Brazilian fund Outfield, which is set to become Le Mans’ majority shareholder.
