Inter Milan and AC Milan will hold decisive talks on the future of the San Siro with Milan Mayor Beppe Sala by mid-September.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper La Repubblica, via FCInterNews. They report that the clubs are still very much considering alternatives to staying in the iconic stadium open.

One way or another, the years-long saga regarding the future of the San Siro has a conclusion in sight.

For more than twelve months, Inter and Milan looked to have given up on the prospect of staying in the city of Milan.

The clubs had spent several years trying to secure approval for plans to demolish the San Siro. They had wanted to build a new, more modern stadium in place of it.

But after bureaucratic hurdles made that impossible, the clubs looked elsewhere.

Inter have been pursuing plans in the commune of Rozzano. And Milan are even further along in their efforts to build in the San Donato area.

Inter & AC Milan To Hold Decisive San Siro Talks With Sala By Mid-September

Milan Mayor Beppe Sala has made a last-ditch attempt to keep Inter and Milan at the San Siro.

It is a certainty that the clubs cannot tear down the iconic stadium and build a new one.

However, Sala has brought in architectural firm WeBuild. They have proposed plans to renovate the stadium that would keep it standing but allow it to generate greater revenues.

Ultimately this is the crux of the matter. Despite its iconic status, the San Siro is not a cash cow on par with more modern stadiums that other top European clubs play in.

Inter and Milan have now had a couple months in which to mull over WeBuild’s proposal.

The Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri have yet to give a definitive response to Sala and WeBuild.

But that is now not too far away.

According to La Repubblic, Inter and Milan’s plans to build new stadiums separately in the greater metropolitan area of Milan remain as alive as ever.

But at the same time, the clubs have not yet definitely closed the door to the idea of at least one of the teams staying at the San Siro.

But one way or another, they should deliver their response in a meeting with Sala soon. That should be within the first couple weeks of September.
