Nübel surprises with statement on Bayern future: „Chances relatively good“

There could be an unexpected change in the goalkeeping position at FC Bayern this summer. Alexander Nübel has now spoken out himself about his future in Munich – and is causing a stir

There have actually been many indications recently that the 29-year-old will no longer play a major role at FC Bayern. His loan to VfB Stuttgart expires in the summer, but there have been no concrete talks about a future at Säbener Straße so far. Internally, Jonas Urbig is considered the favourite to succeed Manuel Neuer

This makes Nübel’s statements at the DFB press conference all the more surprising. When asked how likely it was that he would see Urbig again in Bayern training, the goalkeeper explained: „Relatively high, because I still have a contract in Munich.“

From FC Bayern’s perspective, however, the starting position is clearly structured. Urbig is set to become the new number one, especially in the event that Manuel Neuer ends his career. The 22-year-old is held in high regard by both Vincent Kompany and national coach Julian Nagelsmann

Nübel, on the other hand, has played a subordinate role in the plans to date, and the fact that no talks have been held about a concrete future is seen internally as a clear signal

Nübel speaks positively about Urbig

Despite the uncertain prospects, Nübel is very professional. He also spoke positively about his potential rival: „I’ve just met him for the first time, in person on the pitch. „Very, very good boy, very eager, already very, very advanced even at that age.“

In sporting terms, the 29-year-old now has the chance to further present himself in the DFB team. Nübel is set to play in goal in the test match against Ghana and could thus gather important arguments for his future – whether at FC Bayern or at another club.
