Sport Bild (via @bvbnewsblog) reports that Nuri Sahin will aim to play more attacking football with Borussia Dortmund this season compared to last season.

Despite the comments coming at a terrible time for Dortmund, Sahin agreed with Mats Hummels’ assessment that Dortmund played too passively at times under Edin Terzic and were too defensive. When the former midfielder first arrived as assistant coach at the beginning of the year, he actively made changes to move away from this style of play, with Dortmund’s possession growing by 4%.

Sahin’s aim is to play like Bayern Munich. What this means is dominating the ball and not having a game where they had 39% possession like against Bayer Leverkusen.

That is why Sahin is insisting on certain transfers. The former midfielder has already spoken to new signing Waldemar Anton about his build up play. While Pascal Groß is also seen as a player who could greatly improve Dortmund’s play style, especially in midfield. This means that players such as Emre Can will have to improve if they want to keep their place in the team.
