This was Antonio Nusa’s moment. Picked out by Martin Ødegaard on the left-hand side of the box in the 39th minute, our no. 7 did the rest in style. Toni shifted the ball onto his right foot, opened up the angle and curled a beautiful finish into the top-right corner. The goalkeeper was left with no chance.

It was Nusa’s first World Cup goal and a special one in more ways than one. At 21 years and 74 days old, the winger is now the youngest Norwegian player ever to score at the tournament.

Tears of joy for Toni as Nyland saves Norway late on

Around an hour later, the emotion poured out. Toni celebrated together with his teammates on the AT&T Stadium pitch in Dallas after Norway’s first ever victory in a World Cup knockout game.

Former RBL goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland was right at the heart of it too, producing a brilliant save late on to deny Amad Diallo’s dangerous free-kick and protect Norway’s lead.

Nowitzki watches on as Haaland has the final say

There was plenty going on in Dallas between Nusa’s opener and Nyland’s late save. Basketball legend Dirk Nowitzki was among the crowd of more than 70,000 for an open, attacking contest in which Yan Diomande again caught the eye.

Our winger was one of Ivory Coast’s most lively players, getting a shot away, creating one chance for a teammate and staying heavily involved in his side’s attacking play.

The equaliser came through his dangerous partner out wide. Diallo skipped away from his markers as if they were cones before keeping his composure from close range to make it 1-1 (74’). From that point on, both sides threw everything at it.

The winner came from exactly the man Norway would have wanted a chance to fall to. Erling Haaland finished from a fine Sander Berge cut-back in the 86th minute to make it 2-1 and send Norway into Sunday evening’s round-of-16 tie against Brazil.
