Since Lionel Messi's arrival, several European veterans have viewed MLS as an attractive destination after long careers on the continent.
At the same time, however, the league already has its own veteran stars, including New York City FC's Maxi Moralez.
Now in his second spell with the club, the Argentine playmaker is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the club's history and one of the league's most respected figures.
Although his name recently resurfaced because of an exchange involving Lionel Messi and Rodrigo De Paul, Moralez is back in the headlines for a different reason.
After suffering another injury, the 39-year-old Argentine has cast doubt over whether he will continue his playing career.
The Argentine has a contract with the Pigeons until December of this year. That’s why, after his new injury last September, Maxi Moralez confirmed this could be the final drop and could end his career once he recovered.
"Unfortunately, another knee injury. At this stage of my career, who knows if this is how it will end, I honestly don't know. There are so many thoughts running through my head. I'm deeply saddened, incredibly disappointed, and left with so many unanswered questions."
Adding, “What I do know for certain is that I'll recover. I know this one will be even tougher, but nothing has ever come easy throughout my career. I'll fight my way back because I know there are a lot of people who want to see me try, and that's exactly what I'm going to do.”
The former Racing Club from Avellaneda footballer wants to continue playing with the Pigeons, but Father Time is unpredictable. At 39 years old, the body doesn’t respond the same as if he were around 27.
The truth is that analysing the post of Moralez, he will do anything to recover and play one last time, and, just like any other footballer, if he has to put an end to his career, he would prefer to do it on the field where he astonished everyone.
