NYCFC news roundup: International duty and future games

Article image:NYCFC news roundup: International duty and future games

New York City FC and most of the other Major League Soccer teams are in the middle of the September international break. The Pigeons will resume play this weekend against Chicago Fire FC. They were originally doing decently well, but managed to end August with a loss against D.C. United, who sits in last place in the Eastern Conference.

Before then, there are some stories to cover. Here is another NYCFC news roundup that includes a look at future matches.

Some NYCFC international news

If one is a fan of the USMNT and somehow missed any news from Saturday's game, then they would have missed the fact that the Stars and Stripes lost 2-0 to South Korea. NYCFC's Matt Freese started and only made two saves while giving up the two goals. It did not help that defensive mistakes led to the goals in the end.

Meanwhile, Alonso Martínez started and played the entire 90 minutes of Costa Rica's 1-1 draw with Nicaragua. The striker did not have any shots and was not the influential forward that he can be.

The remaining six players away on national team duty have not played yet, were on the bench and came on as a sub, as was the case for Aiden O'Neill with Australia, or are with the youth national teams.

The pressure is on in Chicago

As mentioned, NYCFC will resume play against the Chicago Fire. While most MLS teams did not play over the weekend, the Fire played and won against the New England Revolution. As a result, the team moved up in the standings. The Windy City side is now in ninth place and has two fewer points than the Bronx side.

Hence, this puts the pressure on the Boys in Blue to win on the road. They have done so recently, including away wins over FC Dallas and FC Cincinnati. That should help them believe that they can win. Additionally, they won the home fixture. But nothing is guaranteed, and the road woes could come back.

NYCFC needs to win to ensure they do not fall to ninth place.

NYCFC tickets for the Inter Miami game

Later this month, NYCFC will play Inter Miami CF. As seen across the league, home game ticket prices tend to rise due to a certain star by the name Lionel Messi.

Currently, the match at Citi Field has tickets ranging anywhere from $104.72 to over $5,000. So, if one is looking to see NYCFC play the Herons and does not have tickets yet, then they will have to spend a little more than they are used to.
