After going eight games in all competitions, scoring one goal or none, New York City FC has now scored five goals in their last two. They scored twice in the Hudson River Derby against the New York Red Bulls. Then, they had three goals in the match against Chicago Fire FC on Sunday.
Ideally, NYCFC will continue to score multiple goals and not revert to their scoring problems that plagued them for a good portion of the season. It would also be ideal for the Bronx side to win their third-straight match when they welcome Houston Dynamo FC for a midweek battle. On paper, the Boys in Blue should win the game, but nothing is ever guaranteed. That is why it is vital for Pascal Jansen’s team to approach this fixture as if they are playing one of the top teams in Major League Soccer.
Moreover, NYCFC is in the middle of a three-game week over a period of seven days. Since they will be on the road on Saturday, it would be good to at least win both home fixtures. The Pigeons do not want to end the week with only three points or even four.
Again, the secret to success will be scoring multiple goals. Therefore, let’s take a look at the preview for NYCFC’s game against the Houston Dynamo.
NYCFC and the Houston Dynamo will battle it out on Wednesday, May 28.
The game will start at 7:30 PM ET.
The fixture will be played at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York.
Fans can watch the match on the MLS Season Pass via Apple TV.
The weather will be very different compared to Sunday’s match. It will be around 60 degrees and there will be a slight breeze. However, the big story will be the rain, for it is expected to rain during the entire fixture.
Jacob Arroyave (leg), Malachi Jones (leg), Kevin O’Toole (leg), and Andrés Perea (leg) are out for the match against the Dynamo.
Similar to the weekend, Alonso Martínez is the player to watch for NYCFC. His goal against Chicago came via a penalty kick, but he still scored. He also had the most shots during the game, registering five of NYCFC’s 21. The offensive effort from the Costa Rican has been vital in the team’s wins this year, and he will likely continue to be the scoring focal point for the Pigeons.
On Houston, Jack McGlynn is the player to pay attention to. The orange side might have only four wins, but the addition of McGlynn from the Philadelphia Union had been a bright part of their season. He has two goals and three assists and already appears to perform better in the Dynamo’s system of possession-based play. His ability with the ball makes him threatening in the final third. His growth makes him someone to watch, for it is only a matter of time before he soars.
