At this point, the best way to describe this season for New York City FC is that it is a roller coaster season. There have been highs, like the good start, the U.S. Open Cup run, and the Hudson River derbies. There have been lows, like the injuries, seven-game winless streak, and the countless games where points were dropped. So, what will happen when they face the New England Revolution?
Last year, NYCFC fell on the road to the Massachusetts team after beating them at home a month before. In addition, the two sides last met in April 2025, so quite a bit of time has gone by. New England also ended the 2025 campaign in 11th place. This year, they sit in fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings.
In other words, the Pigeons are facing a stronger team. And because of injuries and silly mistakes, it is easy to argue that the Bronx side is not playing at the level that they should be. On paper, the roster is not necessarily weaker compared to last season. Still, it is difficult to see the visiting team coming back with any points due to their trends this year.
If NYCFC somehow comes home with anything, then that will be an incredible and unexpected accomplishment. Here is the preview of NYCFC’s road match against the New England Revolution.
NYCFC will face the New England Revolution on Sunday, August 23.
The match will start at 4:30 PM.
The fixture will be at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
Supporters can watch the game on Apple TV.
When the match begins, there is a chance of rain or even a thunderstorm. It will be about 75 degrees, and the humidity will hover around 85%. With a dew point of 69, it will likely feel sticky and uncomfortable.
Drew Baiera (leg), Arnau Farnós (leg), Alonso Martínez (leg), Maxi Moralez (leg), Aiden O’Neill (leg), Kai Trewin (leg), and Hannes Wolf (leg) are not available for the game against the Revolution. Thiago Martins (leg) is questionable. He is back in training, though, so perhaps he will be available off the bench.
Keaton Parks is the player to watch on NYCFC. The midfielder has made a difference in the midfield since his return from injury, but recently he has struggled defensively. He has never been at James Sands' level when it comes to being a defensive midfielder, but Parks can play the role and do it well. Plus, he is often more forward in the attack since his natural position is a central midfielder. But the Pigeons need him to be strong defensively.
Fans should also watch New England’s Jack Harrison. The former NYCFC player has already become a contributor to his new team, as he has three assists so far. He is someone who could easily be a star in Major League Soccer. He was on that way back when he was with NYCFC before moving to England, so it will be interesting to see how he does this weekend.
New England has been doing better than the Pigeons, so that is why NYCFC will fall 2-0. It will not be the best game, but they will show some fight as the match progresses. This time, they will not give up any goals in the final 15 minutes plus stoppage time, but the home side will score in the first half.
