Nygren dismisses ‘stupid’ Celtic criticism then scores for Sweden | OneFootball

Ahead of the match the Celtic midfielder had dismissed criticism aimed at himself, his club teammates, and Martin O’Neill as being “stupid”.

The 25 year old former Nordsjaelland man says there’s nothing to be gained by reading “stupid comments” in wake of Celtic’s three game losing streak, two of which were at the hands of bitter rivals the Rangers.

Nygren accumulated an impressive number of goals and assists in his first season as a Celtic player, and has started this campaign in the same productive fashion. But it’s not been enough to have spared him to the mass of criticism being aimed at anyone connected to Celtic in the midst of the current mini crisis.

Benji, like his teammates and manager is feeling the heat at the moment, but explained to the media in his native Sweden that he does his best to avoid unwanted and negative attention.

Nygren told the Swedish media in the pre-match mixed zone, as reported by Fotbollskanalen: “As you know, those of you who work in the media, it tends to be black or white. As a player, there’s no point in going in and reading things that people write in moments like these.

“You don’t gain anything by going in and reading stupid comments.”

He finds it important to acknowledge the many factors that can affect performances, results, and other external issues. “There are so many people who care about how things are going and I see that as something very cool and nice,” Nygren said.

“I just try to do my best all the time and as a team you can’t always win every game, even though we aim to do so.”

Well done to Benjamin Nygren for scoring the opening goal for his country in their Nation League win over Poland, that gets Sweden off to a flying start in their campaign.  Let’s hope he continues his good form back in Celtic colours when domestic action returns at Fir Park a week on Sunday.
