AC Monza have confirmed Pedro Obiang as their new sporting director, ending a 16-year playing career to take up his first role in club management.
According to the club’s official statement, last season, in which Obiang “helped the biancorossi return to Serie A with 36 appearances and 2 goals, was Obiang’s final season as a player.”
Monza described the move as “a new and exciting challenge proposed to him by the Brianza-based club, which he is ready to take on with the same charisma, professionalism and dedication that have defined every stage of his career.”

Born in Alcalá de Henares, Obiang came through Sampdoria’s youth system before making his senior debut there in 2010, going on to make over 100 appearances for the Genoa club.
He moved to West Ham in 2015 for around €6m, spending four years in east London and scoring the club’s goal of the season in 2017-18 with a strike against Tottenham.
A €7.5m move to Sassuolo followed in 2019, where he spent six seasons including their Serie B title-winning campaign, before joining Monza on a free transfer last summer.
Capped at youth level for Spain, he later switched allegiance to represent Equatorial Guinea at senior level.
