Martin Odegaard scored the only goal as Arsenal began their Champions League campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Napoli.

The Arsenal captain struck with 15 minutes remaining at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, smashing in off the post to get Arsenal off to a winning start in Europe.

Mikel Arteta made several changes to his starting line-up, with Viktor Gyokeres leading the attack and Mikel Merino partnering Declan Rice in midfield, while Eberechi Eze started on the left.

Chances were at a premium during a tight first half but the breakthrough finally arrived in the 75th minute when Odegaard produced the moment of quality Arsenal needed to put the Premier League champions ahead.

Napoli pushed for an equaliser late on but Arsenal held firm to secure another clean sheet.
