ÖFB-Frauen Bundesliga results: SKN St. Pölten go top as Sturm Graz falter, LASK grab deserved win | OneFootball

The eighth week of results in the ÖFB-Frauen Bundesliga saw SK Sturm Graz drop into second place as tenacious Austria Wien broke Graz’s unbeaten run in the 2026/27 season.

There were 13 goals across the five action-packed fixtures this week, with none of them ending in a draw.

SKN St. Pölten now sit top of the Bundesliga, a familiar sight across the last decade. SK Sturm Graz drop to second place with another tough fixture awaiting them as they prepare to travel to new leaders Pölten. Südburgenland remain bottom of the table as their chances of staying in the ÖFB-Frauen Bundesliga get more unlikely each week.

SK Sturm Graz vs FK Austria Wien

Two of the leagues biggest heavyweights finally faced each other in this high pressure fixture. Sturm Graz started the fixture top of the ÖFB-Frauen Bundesliga but didn’t have enough to stop reigning champions Austria Wien from taking a 2-0 victory back to the capital.

Austrian legend Carina Wenninger scored both of the away sides goals. Graz suppressed the Austria Wien pressure until late in the game with Wenninger’s first goal arriving in the 76th minute. Wenninger latched onto a loose ball following a save from Sarah-Lisa Dübel and fired it home make it 0-1.

Austria Wien kept the pressure on Graz despite their lead and bagged a second goal through Wenninger just before the final whistle in the second minute of added time. Almedina Šišić did some great work creating space in the Graz half and her speculative cross found the opportunistic Wenninger, who tapped it home again to make the score 0-2.

The league table is now a little more open for Austria Wien who, despite staying still in third place, have stolen vital points from a team above them. Tode Djakovic’s Sturm Graz drop to second in the table. Pölten are now the only unbeaten team in the ÖFB-Frauen Bundesliga.

SpG Südburgenland/TSV Hartberg vs SCR Altach

Leandro Simonelli’s Altach side continued their run of good form as they overcame bottom-of-the-table Südburgenland by a narrow score-line of 1-0. It was the ÖFB-Frauen Bundesliga’s top goal-scorer Petra Mikulica who bagged the goal for the away side. She converted a penalty kick, taking her season total now to nine goals.

Südburgenland stay bottom after this week’s results, with thoughts of relegation starting to prevail. The game at Stegersbach – Thermenstadion saw the home side struggle to pressure Altach. Manager Michael Thek also picked up a yellow card after showing his frustration towards referee Dedic Nehrudin.

Altach now sit a little more comfortably in fourth, only three points behind current champions Austria Wien.

First Vienna FC 1894 vs LASK

LASK managed to creep past First Vienna with the help of two unfortunate own goals from Lena Mädl. The 26-year-old defender had a day to forget as she managed to find her own net twice. Once through an unfortunate deflection and the second through a mistimed headed clearance that instead passed her own ‘keeper Amelie Kandlhofer.

LASK also found the net through exciting youngster Dayna Tuppinger to win the game 2-3. First Vienna tried their best to fight for a draw, with 20-year-old Helena Milanovic scoring a consolation goal in the final seconds of the game, but the match was already lost.

First Vienna defender Jovana Čavić also scored a fantastic goal for her side with some superb link-up play to then calmly finish the ball into the bottom left of Andrea Gurtner.

LASK rise two places in the table to sixth with First Vienna dropping to seventh, This will no doubt be a disappointing position for the Vienna side.

SK Rapid vs FC Red Bull Salzburg

It was a closely fought fixture in this mid-table showdown at the Allianz complex in Hütteldorf. Rapid fell 0-1 to a tenacious Salzburg side after a goal from Valentina Akrap. The Austrian-born Croatian has been with Salzburg since 2025 and this fixture marked her first league goal for the Red Bull side.

Rapid fall to eighth in the table but are still have a cushion of four points away from bottom place. Last year’s ÖFB Frauen Cup finalists Salzburg are now fifth in the league after moving up one place and are three points behind in-form Altach.

SKN St. Pölten vs FC Blau-Weiß Linz Kleinmünchen

Former champions Pölten moved up to first in the table as they pushed aside Linz during a 4-0 home win. Pölten are now the only unbeaten side in the league after Graz fell to Austria Wien. They have also only conceded two goals this season so far.

Magdalena Rukavina got her side started with a classy goal from distance after earning herself some space on the edge of the Linz penalty area in the 32nd minute. The Austrian youth player continues her fine form that saw her recognised as one of the league’s most impactful young players.

Lisa Ebert added a second for Pölten in the second half after a piece of impressive strength from German forward Amelie Woelki. The third goal of the game came directly from Woelki, who in similar fashion, won the ball from Linz’s Lea-Sophie Nimmrichter and finished calmly to make it 3-0.

Woelki who has previously played in Germany for Turbine Potsdam and Hamburger SV has been in fine form in recent matched for Pölten and is making a fine case for her inclusion in the starting XI.

The final goal of the game for the league leaders came via Alma Aagaard in the 93rd minute of the game, making the final score 4-0.

Laurent Fassotte’s side now have their fate in their own hands regarding the league. Their next opposition is SK Sturm Graz, who currently sit in second place, a win over Graz would create a further gap at the top of the table for the ousted champions.

ÖFB-Frauen Bundesliga teams in the UWCL and UWEC

Austria Wien played Chelsea on Wednesday, 23rd September in London as their UEFA Women’s Champions League season got underway. The Vienna-based side gave a fantastic example of their quality as they pressured Chelsea consistently through the fixture, only falling to 1-0 away from home.

SKN St. Pölten fell 2-0 to Swedish side Malmö FF in their first-leg Europa Cup playoff final qualifying round. SK Sturm Graz also lost in their first-leg of the UWEC final qualifying round against German giants VfL Wolfsburg six goals to one.
