The Bundesliga club have secured the services of the 28-year-old centre-back for a reported fee of €4–5 million. Lochoshvili has signed a contract at the RheinEnergieStadion until June 2029.
The Georgian international enjoyed an impressive campaign with Nürnberg last season, making 33 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga while contributing five goals and two assists from defence.
Sporting director Thomas Kessler welcomed the club’s latest addition, saying:
“We are very pleased that we were able to convince Luka to join 1. FC Köln. He has gained valuable experience at various clubs in recent years and brings exactly the profile we were looking for in this position. With his personality, strength in duels and physical presence - especially in the air - he will add further stability to our defence. As a left-footed centre-back, he completes our options in central defence and gives our squad even more quality in this area. We are convinced that Luka is an excellent fit for us, both as a player and as a person. We are all looking forward to seeing him in an FC shirt.”
Lochoshvili is equally excited about the next chapter of his career, adding:
“As a footballer, you always want to play at the highest level possible. That’s why I’m delighted to be joining 1. FC Köln and taking the next step in my career in the Bundesliga. The discussions with those at the club were very positive and quickly convinced me of the project. I’m looking forward to representing such a great traditional club, playing in front of these fantastic fans, and meeting my new teammates.”
