La Liga outfit Rayo Vallecano have on Wednesday announced the departures of two members of the club’s defensive ranks to the Premier League.
The pair to have opted for a new adventure in England for the seasons ahead? Pep Chavarría, and Nobel Mendy.
Beginning with the former, left-back Chavarría has of course been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea for several weeks now. After being identified as the Blues’ first-choice target to replace Marc Cucurella, negotiations were in turn opened between the two clubs last month.
And as alluded to above, on Wednesday, these talks have at long last borne fruit. As per a statement across Rayo’s official social media platforms:
‘Rayo Vallecano de Madrid and Chelsea FC have reached an agreement for the permanent transfer of Pep Chavarría. From the Club, we wish Pep the very best of luck in his new stage.’
And as alluded to above, the outflux of talent from Vallecas has not stopped there…
Quickly following defensive partner Chavarría out the door on Wednesday afternoon was central defender Nobel Mendy.
After something of a breakout campaign on the books of Rayo last time out, stopper Mendy is understood to have been eyed up by a whole host of clubs from across the continent this summer.
In the end, though, it was newly-promoted Premier League side Hull City who beat out the competition to his signature, as per a further statement released a short time ago:
‘Rayo Vallecano de Madrid and Hull City have reached an agreement for the permanent transfer of Nobel Mendy. From the Club, we wish Nobel the best of luck in his new chapter.’
