Saudi side Al-Shabab have officially confirmed the arrival of veteran midfielder Giacomo Bonaventura on a free transfer following his departure from Fiorentina.
The 34-year-old Italian midfielder left the Viola last month after a positive four-year spell that saw him reach two Europa Conference League finals. During his time in Florence, he scored 22 goals and provided 22 assists across 162 matches.
In the January transfer window, Bonaventura was heavily linked with a move to Juventus, something that was confirmed by his agent Vincenzo Raiola, but heading into the summer interest began to emerge from Saudi Arabia.
Al-Shabab confirmed on their Twitter that Bonaventura has now joined the club on a free transfer, penning a one-year contract with an option for a second year.
A number of clubs across Italy were interested in signing the 34-year-old, including Como, Genoa, Lazio and Torino, but he ultimately decided to make the switch to Saudi Arabia.
Across his time in Serie A, the Italian midfielder appeared in 380 topflight games, netting 64 goals and providing 56 assists.
