Angers SCO have confirmed that striker Sidiki Chérif (19) has joined Turkish club Fenerbahçe on loan, with a compulsory purchase clause.

Despite strong interest from several European clubs, most notably Premier League side Crystal Palace, Chérif will complete the season in Istanbul, ahead of a permanent deal worth a reported €25m (including loan fee and bonuses).

On Angers’ books since he was 12, Chérif signed his first professional contract with the club in July 2023, aged 16, making his first team debut in January 2024.

This season has been Chérif’s breakthrough campaign for the Ligue 1 club, with four goals scored in 19 Ligue 1 appearances, including strikes to secure draws against AS Monaco and Olympique de Marseille.

Born in Guinea, Chérif has previously been called up for France’s U16 squad, but did not make an appearance. At Fenerbahçe, he will link up with France international and fellow new signing Mattéo Guendouzi.
