Atalanta have officially announced the signing of Italian midfielder Marco Brescianini from Frosinone on a loan deal with an option to buy, which will become an obligation if certain conditions are met.

Recent reports suggest that Atalanta will pay a fee of €2m to have Brescianini on loan for the season, and will have to pay a further €10m to make the move permanent.

The 24-year-old had been close to joining Frosinone’s neighbours Napoli until last week. He had even undergone a medical with the Partenopei only for that deal to collapse at the last minute.

Atalanta have managed to pounce on the opportunity though, and provide Gian Piero Gasperini with an important addition in the midfield.

Milan are set to profit from the deal if it is made permanent, as they negotiated a significant sell-on clause with Frosinone at the time of his move there last summer.

What Atalanta said about new signing Brescianini

“Atalanta BC are glad to announce the signing, on loan with a buy-out option and an obligation to make the transfer permanent under certain conditions, of footballer Marco Brescianini from Frosinone Calcio,” a statement read on the club website.

“Summing up his latest season, the 24-year-old midfielder racked up 36 appearances, embellished by 4 goals and 2 key passes.

“Born on January 20 2000, he moved his first footballing steps at Milan, rising up the Rossoneri’s Youth System ladder all the way to the first team, with whom he made his debut in August 2020, hitting the pitch in the Serie A finale.

“After earning his stripes during his loan spells between the 2020 and 2023 seasons at, respectively, Virtus Entella, Monza and Cosenza – which lead to 70 Serie B caps, 4 goals and a first call-up for Italy’s U21s on August 2021- Brescianini made his comeback in Italy’s top flight after completing an outright transfer to Frosinone in the summer of 2023.

“The Percassi family, the Pagliuca family and the entire Club extend a warm welcome to Marco, wishing him the best satisfactions – personal and team – in the black and blue shirt.”
