La Liga outfit Athletic Club have this week announced an altogether significant addition to the club’s defensive ranks.

The player to have linked up with Ernesto Valverde’s troops for the seasons to come? Aymeric Laporte.

The name of defender Laporte has of course proven an altogether prominent one in the Spanish media headlines over the last couple of weeks.

This comes after Athletic’s late-window swoop for the Spanish international surprisingly failed at the last minute.

After FIFA rejected Laporte’s arrival from Al-Nassr, those behind the scenes at San Mamés in turn set about rectifying the situation.

And as alluded to above, late this week, such efforts have officially borne fruit.

As per a statement across Athletic’s website and social media platforms:

‘Aymeric Laporte is coming home. The centre-back has left Al-Nassr to rejoin Athletic Club, putting pen to paper on a three-year contract until 30 June 2028.’
