FC Augsburg have officially confirmed the signing of Germany U20 international Anton Kade. The intriguing former Hertha academy product joins the Fuggerstädter on a €2.25m transfer from FC Basel and signs a new deal with his new Bundesliga club valid until 2029. Despite his young age, the 21-year-old has already assembled over 100 competitive appearance for the Swiss champions.
Kicker reports that Augsburg – who had not confirmed a new summer arrival since the purchase of Burnley’s Han-Noah Massengo well over a month ago – plan to remain active in the final days of the summer transfer window. Kade doesn’t help fill the exigent needs in FCA head coach Sandro Wagner’s squad and is probably intended as a back-up option to right back Marius Wolf.
The Bavarian Swabians were nevertheless keen to welcome their official sixth summer signing. Wagner currently finds himself attempting to tweak the foundations of an already strong team left to him by predecessor Jess Thorup in order to get the club pushing for European qualification. Wagner could also end up giving Kade some auditions in attack.
“In Anton Kade, we are gaining a player who fits perfectly into our team,” newly-installed Augsburg sporting director Benjamin Weber noted in a club statement. He is versatile in attack and already has a lot of experience despite his age. “His strengths add a valuable component to our squad.“
“My time in Basel was a valuable experience for me, but I see FCA as the perfect next step for my personal development,” the player himself added. “The talks with the coaching team have fully convinced me.”
