In a major development, FC Barcelona have announced that their planned pre-season friendly against Vissel Kobe has now been suspended.
“FC Barcelona announces that it has been obliged to suspend its participation in the game scheduled for next Sunday in Japan due to serious contractual breaches on behalf of the promoter,” the statement read.
Barça were scheduled to play Vissel Kobe on July 27 in what would have been the first of their three pre-season friendlies in Asia.
Now, with the game in Japan off, the Blaugrana will not be flying to Asia tomorrow as initially scheduled.
Outlining the steps that they will now take, Barcelona’s statement further noted:
“Nevertheless, the Club will consider readjusting the leg of the summer tour in South Korea, where two games are scheduled against FC Seoul (31 July) and Daegu FC (4 August), if certain conditions are met by the promoter.”
“If these conditions are met, then the Club will travel to South Korea in the coming days. FC Barcelona regrets this incident and the impact it will have on the many, many Barça fans in Japan.”
It remains to be seen how the situation evolves and whether Barcelona arrange another friendly in Asia or locally to make up for the cancelled Vissel Kobe match.
For now, players are expected to report to training at Ciutat Esportiva as per normal tomorrow, instead of flying to Japan.
