In a disheartening bit of update, FC Barcelona have officially confirmed that midfield prodigy Marc Bernal has suffered an ACL injury.

The 17-year-old went down late in the game against Rayo Vallecano last night and had to be taken off, with the worst being feared.

The La Masia gem, who has started all three of Barcelona’s matches this season, was seen leaving with crutches, which only seemed to confirm the serious nature of his injury.

Following tests conducted today, Barça have officially announced that Bernal has indeed ruptured the ACL in his left knee and that he will undergo surgery in the coming days.

“Tests carried out on Wednesday have shown that the player Marc Bernal has a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and an associated injury to the lateral meniscus,” the statement said.

“In the coming days he will undergo a surgical procedure and when completed an update will be provided.”

The fact that Bernal has sustained some damage to the meniscus as well means that he could be out for longer.

SPORT reports that the 2024/25 season is as good as over for the young midfielder in what will come as a devastating blow.

It is expected that the midfielder could be out for a period of ten months to a year.

Bernal made his official first-team debut for Barcelona earlier this month against Valencia and soon became a regular in the team under Hansi Flick. We wish the youngster a speedy recovery!
