This past weekend saw Barcelona youngster Jofre Torrents pick up an injury while in action for the reserve team, Barça Atletic.

Now, the club has officially confirmed that the young left-back has suffered a syndesmosis injury in his left ankle, which will rule him out for close to three months.

“Medical tests have shown that Barça Atlètic player Jofre Torrents has a syndesmosis injury in his left ankle. The expected recovery time will be between 10 and 12 weeks,” the statement from the club read.

This comes as a bitter blow for Torrents, who was one of the La Masia prospects to break into the senior team this season, while gaining regular game-time with Barça Atletic under Juliano Belletti.

The injury occurred during the reserve team’s league game against Alcoyano. Having not started in the match, the teenage left-back came on as a substitute, but soon went down in pain.

The manner in which he left the pitch raised concerns, and it has now been confirmed that he will be out for an extended period of at least ten weeks.

So far this season, Torrents has made four first-team appearances for Barcelona. He has also featured 15 times for Barça Atletic, scoring and assisting one goal each.
