FC Barcelona have officially confirmed that star forward Lamine Yamal has suffered an ankle injury and is set for close to a month out on the sidelines.

“The first team player Lamine Yamal received a blow to the right ankle during the game against CD Leganés on Sunday,” the statement from the club read.

“Tests carried out on Monday have revealed that the player has a grade 1 injury to a ligament in the ankle. The player is expected to be out for 3 to 4 weeks.”

Lamine was struggling with discomfort in his ankle after being on the receiving end of a challenge from a Leganes player.

The 17-year-old prodigy even asked for a substitution in the first period but was left out on the field by assistant manager Marcus Sorg, filling in for the suspended Hansi Flick, up until the 75th minute or so before he was eventually substituted.

The 2024 Golden Boy winner was seen limping when leaving the Montjuic Stadium after the match and that had sparked serious concerns.

Now, following tests, it has been confirmed that Lamine has a Grade 1 injury to his right ankle ligament and will be out for at least three weeks.

It means that the teenage sensation is out of this weekend’s La Liga encounter against Atletico Madrid while his involvement in the Copa del Rey clash and the Spanish Super Cup semi-final in early January are also in doubt.

Barça will hope to have their talismanic teenage prodigy back available at the earliest possible.

Wishing Lamine a speedy recovery from this latest fitness setback!
