Barcelona winger Raphinha has been withdrawn from the Brazil squad due to a muscle injury and will return to the club, the national team has confirmed in an official statement.
“Athletes Raphinha and Wesley were dropped from the squad this Friday (27) by coach Carlo Ancelotti. Both felt pain in the back of their right thigh during the match against France,” the statement from the Brazil Football Confederation (CBF) read.
“On Friday, the athletes underwent imaging tests that confirmed muscle injuries. The players are free to continue their treatment. No other athletes will be called up to replace them.”
Raphinha was named in the starting XI for Brazil in their friendly against France last night, with the game taking place in the USA.

However, the 29-year-old Barcelona captain had to be withdrawn by manager Carlo Ancelotti after he complained of pain.
The situation naturally sent alarm bells ringing at Barcelona as it emerged that the winger had injured his hamstring – an area where he had already suffered injuries earlier in the season.
Now, the CBF has confirmed that Raphinha has indeed suffered a muscle injury in the back of his right thigh and will be returning to Barcelona.
Once he returns, the winger will undergo further tests to determine the extent of his injury.
