The fitness woes continue to mount for FC Barcelona as the club have confirmed that Robert Lewandowski has been sidelined with a thigh injury.
“The player Robert Lewandowski has a muscle tear in the biceps femoris of the left thigh. He is sidelined, and the recovery time will depend on the progress of the injury,” the statement from the club read.
Much like with the statement issued on Dani Olmo’s injury on Monday, Barcelona have not provided a recovery timeline for Lewandowski.
The 37-year-old striker’s injury comes at an inopportune moment for the La Liga champions, considering that they have already lost several players to fitness problems.
Dani Olmo returned from the Spain camp with a calf injury, while Ferran Torres also came back with muscle overload, although he is expected to be available at the weekend against Girona.
But, given that Lewandowski has suffered a muscle tear in his thigh, he is likely to be sidelined for a few weeks at least.
The veteran striker, whose contract expires at the end of the season, has taken on more of a secondary role this season behind Ferran, but has still scored four goals.
His absence, ahead of key games against Girona, Olympiacos, and Real Madrid will be a concerning blow for Hansi Flick & co.
