It has been less than a month since Joan Garcia made his official debut for FC Barcelona, but he is already proving to be an excellent signing.
Three games into his first season with the Blaugrana, the 24-year-old has bagged his first individual prize, after winning the La Liga Best Save award for August.
The Barcelona new signing won the award for his brilliant stop in the Catalans’ 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano just before the international break.
Garcia came up clutch as Barça came away with a point from their trip to Estadio de Vallecas, and without him, the game would have ended in a defeat for the champions.
On the day, the Spaniard made five crucial saves, with the first of those – to stop Andrei Ratiu – earning him the La Liga Best Save award for August.
With the scoreline still at 0-0, Ratiu was found in acres of space inside the Barcelona box, but Garcia jumped to stop the right-back from scoring from point-blank range.
The 24-year-old beat out competition from Orjan Nyland and Pablo Campos to the prize. He had previously won the Best Save prize twice with Espanyol and this marks his first one in a Barcelona shirt.
