FC Barcelona are constantly working to improve the squad and are trying to reinforce it in any way possible. For the Catalan club, the primary focus this summer was to bring in players wherever needed. However, Barcelona have only signed one player so far this summer.

Beyond that, they have primarily had some complications come up in regards to various operations that they have pursued. The Nico Williams case, in particular, proved to be quite problematic and ended up with him renewing his contract.

Still, the club is not giving up on other operations and is working to do whatever is in their power and ability to improve and provide stability to the team. Keeping that in mind, Barcelona have now renewed the contract of a veteran player ahead of next season.

As confirmed officially by FC Barcelona, 35-year-old Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has now renewed his contract with the club. According to the details provided by the club, the veteran goalkeeper has committed himself to the Catalan giants until 2027.

A tale of valor and guts, Szczesny joined Barcelona midway through last season as an emergency signing following an injury to Marc-Andre Ter Stegen. However, his case is perhaps even more intriguing considering the fact that he came out of retirement to join Barcelona.

Szczesny now likely to be only behind Joan Garcia

Since then, it took him a few months to get going but he eventually became Hansi Flick’s number one choice between the sticks. Moreover, heading into next season, it seems likely that he will be ahead of Ter Stegen when it comes to the pecking order at Barcelona as well.

However, he will also likely be behind Joan Garcia himself. Considering the investment that La Blaugrana have made despite the club’s financial limits, it only makes sense to assume that Garcia will likely be Hansi Flick’s first choice goalkeeper at the club next season.
