“The Spaniard has agreed a five-year deal with the Blues, which includes a further one-year option, and will join up with his new teammates for pre-season.”

Guiu, 18, made his senior debut for Barça in the season gone by, scoring on his La Liga debut against Athletic Club. Soon after the striker went on to score in a UEFA Champions League game as well.

A talented product of the La Masia youth setup, Barcelona intended to keep hold of Guiu and even offered a new contract.

But the striker decided to take his talents elsewhere amid concerns that he might not play regularly for the first team due to the presence of Robert Lewandowski, Ferran Torres, and Vitor Roque.

Guiu had a release clause worth just €6 million in his contract which Chelsea have activated to sign him.

“It’s an immense joy to sign for Chelsea and I struggled to sleep ahead of the journey here because I was so excited. Ever since I was small, it was my dream to play in the Premier League,” Guiu said on his move.

“Now I have the opportunity to come here to Chelsea and I will work my hardest to be successful for the club.”
