The UEFA Champions League 2025/26 will get underway next month in what will be the second season in the competition’s revamped new format, and Barcelona have learnt their eight opponents for the league phase of the competition.
Like last season, instead of 32 teams, there will be 36 clubs participating in the Champions League, and the normal group stage has been replaced by the ‘league phase’, wherein each team will have to play eight games – four home, four away.
The 36 participating teams have been split into four pots based on their individual coefficient ranking, with the last season’s Champions League winner, PSG, the top seed in Pot 1.
No teams from the same association can be drawn against each other, and no team can face more than two opponents from the same association.
Barcelona, who made it as far as the semi-finals last season, were placed in Pot 1, along with Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, PSG, Liverpool, Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund, and Chelsea were the other eight teams.
From this pot, Hansi Flick’s men have drawn reigning champions PSG (H) and Conference League winners Chelsea (A).
Meanwhile, from Pot 2, which contained Arsenal, Bayer Leverkusen, Atletico Madrid, Atalanta, Juventus, Benfica, Villarreal, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Club Brugge, Barça will be facing Eintracht Frankfurt (H) and Club Brugge (A).
Pot 3 had Tottenham, PSV Eindhoven, AFC Ajax, Napoli, Sporting CP, Olympiacos, Slavia Praha, Bodo/Glimt, and Marseille.
From these, Barcelona will be taking on Olympiacos (H) and Slavia Praha (A).
Finally, from Pot 4, which contained FC Copenhagen, AS Monaco, Galatasaray, Union SG, Qarabag, Athletic Club, Newcastle United, Pafos, and Kairat Almaty, the Blaugrana will lock horns with Copenhagen (H) and Newcastle (A).
The league-phase fixture list with match dates and kick-off times will be communicated on Saturday, 30 August.
Having made it as far as the semi-final last season, Barcelona have made it a top objective to go all the way in the Champions League this time around as the road to Budapest kicks off next month.
