Bayer Leverkusen have announced that they have completed the signing of Mario Hermoso on a six-month loan from Serie A side Roma.
Hermoso will add numbers to Leverkusen’s back line as following the injury to Jeanuël Belocian at the beginning of the year, Leverkusen are lacking in defence. The arrival of Hermoso, who is right-footed, will not be a direct replacement for left-sided defender Belocian but will instead allow Edmond Tapsoba to play on his favoured left-hand side, while Piero Hincapié can then be used as a backup to Alejandro Grimaldo.
On joining Leverkusen, Hermoso said:
“I’m very much looking forward to aiming to achieve big targets with the Werkself. Everything is set up here for a successful season on the pitch.”
The Spanish international is Leverkusen’s second signing of this window having previously brought Emiliano Buendia in on loan from Aston Villa, who will potentially reduce some of the reliance on Florian Wirtz.
Hermoso is the third Spanish player to play in the Bundesliga this season. The other two also play for Leverkusen with Aleix Garcia and Grimaldo already plying their trade at the BayArena.
The 29-year-old could make his debut in Leverkusen’s DFB Pokal tie against 1.FC Köln next week.
