Benjamin Mendy has found a new club after several months of waiting. The 31-year-old French left-back has officially joined Pogon Szczecin in Poland. The 2018 World Cup winner put pen to paper on Tuesday, September 16, signing a two-year contract that ties him to the Polish club.
The former Manchester City defender had been a free agent since the end of his stint with FC Zurich. His experience in Switzerland ended in disappointment after only five months. Arriving in February 2024, the Frenchman played just eight matches in all competitions before parting ways with the Swiss club at the end of the season.
According to Polish media, the player was courted by around ten clubs but ultimately chose the Polish adventure. His salary reportedly exceeds one million euros per year—a considerable sum by Ekstraklasa standards. Alex Haditaghi, an executive at Pogon Szczecin, even sent a private jet to France to bring the French defender over. This impressive gesture showcases the Szczecin club's ambition to attract the former French international.
