Official: Boca were fined, but stay in the Copa Argentina

Boca was sanctioned by the Disciplinary Tribunal after including 6 foreign players on the match sheet for the Copa Argentina Round of 16 clash against Vélez. The match, which ended in a penalty shootout win for the Xeneize, only allowed the presence of 5 foreign players. In that regard, El Fortín filed a complaint seeking the disqualification of the club from La Ribera for the violation. All the details of the penalty imposed on the blue-and-gold institution.

Twenty days after the penalty shootout win over Vélez in Córdoba and the subsequent qualification for the Copa Argentina quarterfinals, the Disciplinary Tribunal announced the official ruling on El Fortín’s complaint. As expected, the team from La Ribera was only fined financially, and its place in the next round of the tournament was confirmed.

In this way, the Xeneize continue their preparations for the clash against Racing in search of a place in the semifinals of the federal competition. The match against La Academia will take place this Sunday, September 27, with kickoff time yet to be confirmed, at the Gigante de Arroyito. Everything seems to indicate that it will be played starting at 5:00 p.m. and will be broadcast by TyC Sports. It only remains to wait and see the refereeing crew.

The Disciplinary Tribunal’s ruling with Boca’s fine

1º) TO DEEM AS FILED AND FORMALLY ADMISSIBLE the protest submitted by Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield regarding the match played against Club Atlético Boca Juniors on September 2, 2026, corresponding to the Round of 16 of the 2026 Copa Argentina.

2º) TO DEEM AS PROVEN that Club Atlético Boca Juniors included six (6) foreign footballers on the official match sheet, exceeding the limit of five (5) foreign players authorized to be listed on the match sheet for each official match, in accordance with Article 31 of the AFA-FAA Collective Labor Agreement.

3º) TO DECLARE THAT THE CONDUCT CONSTITUTES A REGULATORY VIOLATION RELATED TO THE PREPARATION, SUBMISSION, AND SIGNING OF THE OFFICIAL MATCH SHEET, but that it does not constitute the fielding of an ineligible player as provided for in Article 18 of the Disciplinary Code, since the effective participation of an ineligible foreign footballer has not been proven.

4º) TO REJECT the request by Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield to sanction Club Atlético Boca Juniors with the loss of the match due to withdrawal or forfeiture.

5º) TO REJECT the request to record the result as Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield 3 – Club Atlético Boca Juniors 0.

6º) TO MAINTAIN THE RESULT OBTAINED ON THE FIELD OF PLAY.

7º) TO MAINTAIN CLUB ATLÉTICO BOCA JUNIORS’ QUALIFICATION for the quarterfinals of the 2026 Copa Argentina and TO REJECT the request for qualification submitted by Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield.

8º) TO SANCTION CLUB ATLÉTICO BOCA JUNIORS WITH A FINE EQUIVALENT TO ONE THOUSAND (1000) TICKET VALUES, for the proven regulatory violation and in accordance with the powers to determine and grade disciplinary sanctions provided for by the Disciplinary Code.
