Bologna have announced that Nicolo Casale has now completed a transfer from Lazio on a permanent basis.
The Italian defender was joined the Biancocelesti in the summer of 2022 following his breakthrough season at Hellas Verona on a deal worth €8 million. The 27-year-old found success in his first season in the capital, but his form dropped the following campaign.
After a couple of disappointing appearances at the start of the current season, Casale was loaned out to Bologna on the summer transfer window’s deadline day. The deal included an obligation to buy hinging on the Emilians’ qualification for any European competition next season.
After beating Milan to lift their first Coppa Italia trophy in 51 years, the Rossoblu secured their place in the Europa League next season, thus triggering the purchase clause. The official Bologna website has now confirmed Casale’s permanent transfer through a statement.
Bologna Fc 1909 announces that it has exercised the option for the definitive acquisition of Nicolò Casale from SS Lazio: the defender has signed a contract until June 30, 2028.
While the official announcement didn’t disclose any figures, Calciomercato reveals that Bologna will pay a transfer fee of €6.5 million after spending €1.5 million on loan fees.
Casale hasn’t been able to cement himself as a regular starter in Vincenzo Italiano’s lineup, as the manager still prefers the defensive partnership of Sam Beukema and Jhon Lucumi. Therefore, he has only made 14 appearances for the Rossoblu in Serie A, in addition to four in the Champions League and three in the Coppa Italia.
